Last Saturday we joined pilgrims from all over the Oxfordshire area as they travelled towards Christ Church Cathedral for the Frideswide Service. For the past two years, St Margaret’s has facilitated the shortest route taking just over an hour from our church down to the cathedral via the canal. It’s a very accesible route and we have lots of people from lots of different backgrounds on the journey with us.

This year, as well as some familiar faces, we were also joined by a group of icon painters from Stratford-upon-Avon. Great conversations were had along the way, before we arrive at the cathedral for a delicious tea and cake reception.

After a little rest, the pilgrims we able to explore the cathedral and some of the Frideswide stations that had been made for the occasion. Our favourites were the sheep (“Which sheep are you? Are you inside the enclosure or outside?”) and the pilgrim’s foot steps (see below).

The day culminated with the Frideswide service, with the wonderful Frideswide Choir leading the music. It was such a lovely service of peace and thanksgiving. We’re hoping to again lead the route from St Margaret’s next year, so please look out for the booking form next September and join us if you can.
